Remote stations for the mankind

Many science fiction movies tell us stories about a mankind that has several remote stations on several luminaries. But is that realistic or just fiction?

In the next 100 years we will probably have remote station in the following two places.

On the Moon

A continuous moon base brings many problems. The first one is that it would cost hundreds of billions of dollars to build and to keep such a basis.
In addition to that the moon doesn't have an
atmosphere or even a strong magnetic field so it cannot guard us from dangerous particles and micro asteroids in the space. This means that we would have to build the base under the earth or to use a natural cave.
The most important problem is the absence of gravity which destroys our muscles, bones and our circulatory system. A solution for this would be to rotate the base or to contract the time astronauts spend in the base.

On the Mars

The Mars is even harder to colonise than the moon because first of all we have to enter it. But how we will do this depends on what we want to do with the Mars. The moon will probably keep a simple remote station while the Mars has the possibility to get turned into a second earth.

So if we decided to change the Mars from a cold and dead planet into a live friendly environment we would be able to choose a few methods.

The easiest way to terraform the mars probably is to beneficiate the atmosphere with greenhouse gases like Methane, carbon dioxide or hydrofluoric acid.
Another idea is to heat the surface with large mirrors they reflect the sun light from space.

These entire concepts have the goal to heat the Mars so the frozen carbon dioxide on the polar caps of the planet. This would have a positive effect on the planet because it gets warmer and the atmosphere gets denser.

Prospects

Remote stations in the space open new prospects.
The moon will probably be used as an assembly plant for space ships and other constructions they are used in the space. Thousands of tons of materials can be transported by a space elevator to the moon so it gets much easier and even possible also for only little companies. Moreover it's the best place to start space trips because of the low gravity on the moon.
The Mars has the possibility to be used as a real living space for 5 billion people or more but first we have to build better space ships because otherwise there a real connection between the two planets cannot exist.

Conclusion

All in all one can definitely say that we have a great future in front of us if we solved the named problems. But to do this we first have to solve our problems between ourselves. I think such a step is only possible for a united mankind.
